Karen Risch: Late first snow, frost may portend warmer, drier winter
Ouray’s first mountain snow arrived rather late this year, on Oct. 3, but still managed to refresh last winter’s lingering white patch visible in Mt. Abram’s huge avalanche basin. By contrast, in 2018, snow frosted these high peaks almost a month earlier, Sept. 4.
2019’s first frost arrived 10 days late, Oct. 6, but no one seemed to mind. The Perimeter Trail especially has been host to eager hikers and runners, often clad in shorts and sneakers, these last few weeks.
