The Western Wood-PeWee belongs to the “Empidonax” group of many different Flycatchers. It is the hardest group to identify, even harder than the Warbler group.
All the “Empidonax” Flycatchers look similar with just a few traits that might identify them. Even the experts have trouble with these birds and rely on their habitat and song.
