In honor of its 15th anniversary year, the Western Colorado Community Foundation is celebrating local philanthropy across the seven counties they serve and honoring people who have a “heart of gold.”  
Susie and Jim Opdahl were honored at a special reception at the Secret Garden on June 13, attended by about 75, many local philanthropists themselves with a “heart of gold.”

The Taste of Ouray certainly lived up to expectations; people came, they saw, they ate, taste buds were pleased.
The Ouray Chamber Resort Association (OCRA) provided an estimate that over 500 people came through the Ouray Community Center last Wednesday night. In addition to the partakers, local vendors had a strong turnout.
Heidi Pankow, OCRA Marketing Director, said, “We have so many amazing restaurants and caterers for such a small town. And, they go out of their way to provide an amazing tasting experience for locals and visitors. People come up to us before and after the event and tell us it’s their favorite event and look forward to it every single year.”

Stitching in the San Juans E-mail

Little-known fact: for over 25 years, members of a chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America have been making an annual sojourn to Ouray for rejuvenating and a little shopping. Their rejuvenation comes from stitching to their hearts' content in the heart of the San Juans.
They call it stitching therapy. For three days the women stitch, shop, stitch, soak, stitch, sip, stitch and snack.
The Desert West Chapter of the national guild is headquartered in Grand Junction, but its members also hail from Glenwood Springs, Cedaredge, Delta and other Western Slope communities. About 20 were in Ouray Apr. 20-22, staying at the Victorian Inn, owned by Jan and Brian Lisk.

The Labyrinth Movement comes to Ouray County E-mail

Ouray County has its very own medieval labyrinth. As of Sunday, May 20 at 4 p.m., the labyrinth gets its official dedication and will be open to all. Any who wish to come are invited to attend the dedication at 2490 County Road 17. Once open, there will be no set hours of operation as one never knows when they will feel the need to embark on a meditative walk.
