While Jack Flowers (R) was "prepared to work hard to find common sense solutions to the problems ahead," the voters of Ouray County chose to re-elect their District 1 County Commissioner, Lynn Padgett (D). Padgett won the race with 1655 votes to Flowers' 1512. Voting for county commissioners is county-wide, although candidates must live in the district.

Ouray County: Batchelder wins in close one |

In the closest of county commissioner races, Don Batchelder eked out a win over incumbent Patrick Willits by a margin of 55 votes in the District 3 race. "I am honored to again have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Ouray County," Batchelder told the Plaindealer. "I would like to thank all those that supported me. And, I would like to reiterate the position that I’ve always held, that as commissioner I will represent all the citizens of Ouray County, and not just those that supported me."

McLachlan wins 59th District seat |

Mike McLachlan pulled out the win in a tightly contested race for Colorado House District 59 over incumbent J Paul Brown. District 59 encompasses Archuleta, Gunnison, Ouray, La Plata and Hinsdale counties. The unofficial vote total was 20,761 to 20,053. According to McLachlan the three biggest issues facing his constituents are “ensuring the economic future of our families, investing in our future by ensuring a world-class education system and protecting our water and the environment of our district."

Tipton to remain in House |

Third Congressional District Representative Scott Tipton (R) held onto the seat he won two years ago, winning a second term in Congress. Tipton's Democratic Party challenger Sal Pace kept up with Tipton in the fundraising race but fell short with voters 54 percent to 41 percent, with 18 of 28 counties reporting at press time. Ouray County, one of the 28 counties in the massive district, voted 1,528 to 1,434 for Tipton. During the campaign, Pace emphasized his ability to work across the aisle, citing his successes as Democratic leader in the Colorado House of Representatives.
