Ouray School takes 1st Place in Knowledge Bowl E-mail

After two days of competing in Colorado Springs, the Ouray School team was welcomed home Friday night with a parade down Main Street, led by the Ouray Volunteer Fire Department. This is Ouray's fifth consecutive year at the state competition but the first time the school took first place.

Second annual Ouray County Mud Fest to be bigger and better E-mail

As temperatures warm up and the snow melts, mud season returns to foil any attempts at spring cleaning. But rather than throwing down mops in frustrated defeat, Ouray County will embrace the muck once again at Mud Fest 2013.
The Ouray County Chamber Resort Association and Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce will host the second annual event at the Ouray County Fairgrounds on April 26-28.
“(The purpose is) bringing our communities together and our regional visitors together to celebrate mud and play, because we have plenty of it,” said OCRA president Tamara Gulde.

Volunteers needed for Log Hill mock evacuation E-mail

The Log Hill Fire Department is holding a drop-in open house Saturday, May 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A pumper, ladder truck, tender, brush truck and other equipment used by firefighters will be on view for kids of all ages to inspect. Fire department representatives will be available to answer questions about fire safety, defensible space, county medical services, evacuation planning and more.
Around midmorning the department will conduct a mock evacuation drill, with the fire station serving as the mock evacuation center. Twenty to 30 mesa residents are needed to serve as volunteer evacuees.
