Sheridan Block moved from south sunny Florida to the snowy slopes of the San Juan Mountains.
Plaindealer Staff Report
What is the difference between south Florida and western Colorado? Some differences are evident, especially when you arrive for your interview in Ouray in the middle of a snow storm. Going from humidity to fluffy flakes, however, was no deterrent to our new Ouray reporter, Sheridan Block.
She began living and working in Ouray County this week and will primarily cover the City of Ouray for the Plaindealer.
"It's a huge move and my family and friends were surprised that I made it. I've lived in big cities all my life so coming out to a much smaller community is definitely a change to say the least.
I think what got to me was the scenery; I fell in love. Seeing mountains and trees is a nice change from flat lands and busy streets. I will absolutely not miss Orlando traffic. I like that I can just walk wherever I need to go without worrying about getting hit by a speeding car. Being a Florida girl, I'll have to get used to the cold and snow, but my dog seems to be adjusting just fine," Block said.
About her new position, Block said, "I'm looking forward to actually doing something I love for a living. Writing articles, editing stories, interviewing people. More than anything, I'm looking forward to learning and developing my talents as a writer and a reporter. I don't want to just write cute stories, I want to write cutting edge, news breaking pieces that will get people talking."
Sheridan graduated from the University of Central Florida with a B.A. in Interpersonal and Organizational Communications and Minor in Magazine Journalism. She served as managing editor of Centric Magazine at UCF, worked as a freelance writer for the Seminole Chronicle and served an internship with CanDo, LLC, honing her skills in marketing and public relations.
"I'm very excited to meet everyone in the community. I love meeting new people and listening to their stories, so please feel free to stop me on the street or swing by the office (281 5th Ave.) to say 'hi'."
