With election season on the horizon, Ouray County Clerk and Recorder Michelle Nauer and Treasurer Jeannine Casolari have announced their intentions to run again for their respective positions this year.
Nauer will be running for a sixth term as the county's Clerk and Recorder, having accumulated nearly 20 years in the position since her election in 1994.
"The office is always busy with many diverse responsibilities," said Nauer. "It is far from boring and always challenging."
As part of her responsibilities, Nauer manages a staff of four, handling all the duties required by rule or statute. Nauer and her team are in charge of processing motor vehicle titles and registrations, archiving permanent county real estate records, handling multiple elections each year, issuing marriage licenses, processing birth and death certificates and serving as clerk to the Board of County Commissioners.
Additionally, she is chair of the Western Region Clerks and a member of the executive board of the Colorado County Clerks Association.
Alongside her fellow elected official, Casolari announced that she will run for what will be her third term in office as the County Treasurer.
Casolari has 16 years of experience in the Treasurer's office, including eight years as Chief Deputy Treasurer prior to her election in 2006.
Working for the county, Casolari manages a staff of two people, the Chief Deputy and Deputy Treasurer, working closely with the County Finance Department as well as other county officials and other department heads. Part of her duties include collecting property tax revenues and distributing money to the various districts, and as public trustee she processes releases of deeds of trusts and foreclosures.
Some of Casolari's achievements during her terms include designing new internal audits and cash balancing procedures.
"By implementing these, my staff and I have created efficiencies and streamlined our work. We will also upgrade to a new Treasurer computer program later this year," she said.
Casolari also serves as the secretary for the Western Division of Colorado County Treasurers and Public Trustees. In the last seven years, she also served as the group's president and vice president and hosted the organization's annual meeting in Ouray County, which brought in county treasurers and public trustees from across the state for training and sharing information.
"I look forward to continue serving as Ouray County Treasurer and Public Trustee and I sincerely appreciate everyone's support," said Casolari.
Elections will be held on Nov. 4. All seats for county officials and one seat for county commissioner will be on the ballot this year. Party caucuses are scheduled for the first week in March.
