A Nissan pickup truck overturned about 10 a.m. Wednesday morning on County Road 24A, just south of Dallas Creek. Ouray County EMS transported the female driver, 23-year-old Caja Ashcroft, to the fairgrounds, where a CareFlight helicopter picked her up.

A dugout skid from the top of the hill on CR 24A and a missing portion of fence suggested the truck left the road, went through the fence and ended upside down in the field. Weather was clear, dry and sunny at the time.
Dane Mahan happened upon the scene and turned around when he saw the overturned truck. "I saw her in there still in her seatbelt, so I busted out the windows. I sat there and made her watch me until EMS showed up," Mahan said. Another driver called in the report.
Mahan said he saw a child's car seat and was concerned, but he did not see evidence that a child had been in the vehicle.
Ashcroft appeared to have a broken arm and severely damaged leg, Mahan said.
