County and former city employee Dan Fossey died unexpectedly on Monday afternoon, June 16.

"It was very unexpected," said Ouray Mayor Pam Larson. "It wasn't something anyone would have expected that he would have died so quickly."
According to Larson, Fossey was not in the hospital at the time and was working on Monday.
Fossey was the Assistant Supervisor of the County's Road and Bridge Department and had been on staff for two years. Before his work with the county, Fossey was the City of Ouray's Public Works Director for nearly 17 years.
In a statement, the county commissioners, on behalf of all of the county employees, "extend their sincere sympathy and condolences" to Fossey's family.
"Dan was just a really neat guy," said Larson. "I found him to be an extremely respectful and kind man. He did an awful lot for the city."
"He was a great guy; so likable and I've got nothing but good things to say about him," said Road and Bridge Supervisor Chris Miller. "I'm gonna miss him a lot."
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Ridgway State Park, Pa-Co-Chu-Puk Campground, North of Ridgway, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hearing Loss Association of America at hearingloss.org. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
