On Monday night, Ridgway School Board Chair Roger Sagal announced that science teacher Chuck Siefken had been appointed acting principal of Ridgway Secondary School.

Sagal explained Siefken's appointment was made last Thursday by Interim Superintendent Steve Smith because Principal Jim Bob Hobbs was not present in the building.
Outbursts arose from the public at the meeting after school board members Steve Larivee and Greg Lawler questioned whether Hobbs had received permission to take sick days on Thursday and Friday of last week from either Smith or outgoing Superintendent Cheryl Gomez.
Larivee asked Hobbs from whom he got permission for the three days he had missed since April  28, when the board voted not to renew his contract for next year.
"They were sick days," responded Hobbs. "I think as of May 1, I had 23 sick days in my bank."
Lawler pushed further, asking Hobbs whether he was sick.
"I was sick," replied Hobbs, explaining he had reported this to the school secretary.
An uncontrolled exchange broke out among the board members, Hobbs and members of the public until Sagal restored order.
